Power

In a glance every soul beholds,

One word that has so much meaning,

The strength and the weakness it holds,

You’ll think you’re dreaming.

It can determine your supremacy,

It can depict your ardour,

If you ride this beast of ecstasy,

It can inflict a nervous disorder.

You should understand it’s depth

Or one day you could possibly drown

Defeated thus losing all your breath

Foregoing your soul and pulling yourself down.

The muscle your body shows

The intensity your brain depicts

Doesn’t matter if great sweetness flows

Power is a drug attracting more addicts.

If it’s not subtle and you’re not kind,

You’re pretty much the loser in it all,

If it’s not fortitude, then you’re blind,

You cost your own spirit to take the fall.

The demeanour you portray is your true self

Greatness lies only within,

Sad, many of you park it on the shelf,

The power lies underneath your skin.

Beth Belize Dsilva

As the clock struck 13:13 hours,

A sweet cry was heard by me,

The lords blessing showers,

A daughter I could see.

Her glimpse was so overwhelming,

I burst into a helpless cry,

Not sure if I were dreaming,

Her voice gave me the softest sigh.

She looked just like her dad,

I couldn’t be more happy,

I knew that he’d be so glad,

He’s gonna be her English Chappie!

They laid her down onto my chest,

She cried and brushed her cheek to mine,

That feeling is just the best,

It’s love’s unforced design.

I saw the excitement in her dads eyes,

When they gave him our baby girl,

His joy touched a thousand skies,

She is his perfect pearl.

I saw our family fit in just right,

Nothing could slide in between now,

We had our own shining light,

Beth Belize Dsilva, y’all, take a bow!

Baby Jitters

I remember the first time we had a glimpse of you,

Confused, we couldn’t understand a thing,

The doctor explained everything in our view,

Clueless as could be, we were in a joyous sing!

As I felt you grow inside me each day,

I still couldn’t make believe your presence much,

I see you through God’s eyes as I pray,

The delight in my voice is such.

And one day we could see you there,

Snuggled up in a corner as cosy as can be,

A pose your daddy and you clearly share,

Even the doctor had a tough time to see.

When you said hi and your palm reached up,

Teary eyed we smiled and laughed,

Either you meant ‘stop it’ or ‘what’s up’,

That palm was immediately photographed!

We can feel you wriggle and move around,

It’s when we know you like what we eat,

It’s your way of showing us cheerful sound,

That times daddy can even hear your heartbeat.

It’s the jitters that we feel all day along,

And the excitement, it only grows,

Each day your presence gets strong,

Our love in every stream flows.

That one night

I recall that cold wintery night

I stayed out late with a friend

I didn’t know if it was wrong or right

I only knew this shouldn’t end.

We rode around the noisy streets,

I held his shoulders in the cold,

As the rain kissed our cheeks,

We rode on being ever so bold.

Sitting around with his friends

Chatting away on what’s next

His eyes sweetly extends

A smile at me in total flex.

There was something right there

We knew the feeling wouldn’t last long

Yet we had the undying need to share

Our wishes were momentarily strong.

We rode back to the hostel

He sat there for sometime just talking

My throat jammed to a bad tonsil

I held back my thoughts that were walking!

He held my hand in an innocent way

As he said goodbye that night

A merry heart goes all day

It remains a memory in total delight.

What to expect when you’re expecting!

I’m no expert as this is my first child

Trust me the feeling is great

When I found out about it, I smiled

It really is awesome fate!

The nausea creeping in everyday

And the weird feeling behind the throat

It’s a promise they made to never go away

‘Oh what a nuisance’, I quote.

The hunger pangs I have are crazy

It’s like the baby is really very hungry

I’ve gotten, oh so, insanely lazy

I could live in a twenty-four supply food country.

With all of this come the numerous mood swings

Irritated one minute and all smiles the next

Confusion hangs on many strings

I only think, ‘oh what’s gonna come next?’

Ask anyone how has their pregnancy been

They praise it as greatly as can be

They give you such a painted scene

Beauty brag is all you can see.

The truth is always withheld by them

They do not give you the actual story

A little heads up wouldn’t condemn

Their so called high held glory.

I agree that it’s a wonderful feeling

To see your baby on the screen every month

At times I think I’m only dreaming

But the joy is a reality pinch all at once.

Expect it to be a roller coaster ride

Nine months are a mixture of emotions

Good bad and ugly, all by your side

It’s a happy dive for forty weeks into the ocean.

Bereaved.

It is a dark shady morning

I guess even the skies knew

That a family was bitterly mourning

The death of pearl that didn’t construe.

They had no mere warning

Not even a clue of it being around the corner

Destiny knew this was dawning

As cold as it is , it won’t even get any warmer.

To see her beautiful soul lay down

At the most peaceful place

She was a queen in every town

Yet her home was her saving grace.

The famous, the middle group paid their respect

The poor, the rich were all equal today

Her kindness did have a grave effect

Her memories will never fade away.

Relatable ‘Chandni’, her smile was moon lit,

Speaking ‘English-Vinglish’ in her own dialect

She was the spirited ‘Mom’ who didn’t quit

Her ‘Lamhe’ did have the shine reflect.

It is never easy to lose our kin

It is not easy to pretend it’s okay

God’s good meed lies fair within

The nation stands at half mast in prayer.

Tequila!

She’s hot and raving

Judged, as insomnia kills her

Every time she’s waving

Thy lonely spirit hears the stir.

You love it when she kisses your lips

Sharing salt, lemon and fire

Your world is in total eclipse

Sobered is never a desire.

At times she’s just like a cup of tea

Subtle spiced clear and sweet

She sure is not ordinary

Tequila is her better greet!

She’s rough and so wanted

She’s loved and ever so quick

Babe! Your mind only gets haunted

Her touch gives you the kick.

She takes over your soul

Crippling your senses to her command

And then the drums begin to roll

You’re in love with the glass in your hand.

The sensation that you crave

Burning your insides in every way

Have made you to be her faithful slave

As she nurtures your merry stay.

Her faithfulness you cannot judge

She’s strong with each passing day

Her seductive being will not budge

Grab the tequila, go up and away!
